Michaelchurch Escley Curriculum Intent Statement 2019
Our curriculum is ambitious and designed to give all pupils the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life. The foundation of it is based on the National Curriculum 2014 with the additional elements of PSHE, RSE, RE and Forest Schools. The curriculum is delivered mainly using a topic-based teaching approach with a large emphasis on contextualised and hands-on learning, frequently using an outdoor environment.
As a local authority school we are required to teach the National Curriculum but we look for ways to ensure that our teachers deliver the required information in a way that could be easier and more engaging for children to learn. There is mounting evidence from child development experts that children learn best when they have a personal interest in a subject and understand how something they are learning is relevant to other subjects. We also believe our asset as a beautiful, rural school makes utilising the outdoors as an extension to the classroom provides a wonderful benefit to children. Our approach for all children is to make learning fun and real.
