While all local authority schools are required to teach the National Curriculum, we decided to look for a way to ensure that our teachers could deliver the required information in a way that could be easier and more engaging for children to learn. There is mounting evidence from child development experts that children learn best when they have a personal interest in a subject and understand how something they are learning is relevant to other subjects. This topic-based, cross-curricular approach to curriculum delivery is what led us to the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
We also believe our asset as a beautiful, rural school makes utilising the outdoors as an extension to the classroom provides a tangible benefit to children. Our approach to Early Years (4-7 years) classroom is more similar to the Welsh curriculum, which is play-based and more child-led. Have a look more curriculum details in the OUR CURRICULUM links to see what will make learning more enjoyable and responsive to the needs of the individual child.
